Monday Minute 4/5/21

Another month come and gone. It’s been quite rainy lately, although as I sit here typing on April Fool’s Day there is snow flurrying around. Of course April 1st had to bring some cooler temps, we had a freeze warning last night after several days of warm weather. Spring is definitely hear though, my allergies have been absolutely terrible for the past two weeks! They are even affecting my lungs this year instead of just my eyes and nose. In February I ran 8 miles without my inhaler and it felt easier than running 4 miles with my inhaler now 🙄. I am definitely looking forward to getting far enough through spring that my allergies calm down!!

The girls and I enjoyed spending an hour in Sugar Hollow park last week for some sunshine and exercise. (I like to tell them we are having PE class). It was a gorgeous day for running around and watching frogs go crazy jumping all over the wetlands…

PERSONAL UPDATE

I got to run a half marathon in March which was really nice, although my allergy-asthma complications made it go slower than I had hoped and trained for. I now have my fingers crossed that my lungs get back to “normal” in time for my next half on May 8th! We shall see. My training has slowed down because it’s just so frustrating to not be able to get enough oxygen to my legs, so I imagine that will slow me down a bit even if my lungs do cooperate! I am constantly reminding myself to be glad I can run at all, and to be grateful for the opportunities to race whether or not they go as well as I want them to. I am hopeful to get back to 1:30 or faster someday, but I have learned that the harder I try, the harder I crash, so I’m trying to let go a bit and just let it happen if it is going to happen.

I got my first COVID vaccine a week ago, and oh boy was my arm sore! I gave in after 36 hours and tried taking some ibuprofen but it didn’t really help. It was a good 4 or 5 days before I could move my arm with zero pain. I’m not looking forward to round 2, but I assume that the higher the vaccination numbers, the closer we are to resuming life as normal, and I am very impatient for that. Wearing a mask makes me cough even more than normal, and besides the fact that I don’t enjoy coughing, I presume people don’t enjoy being around me while I’m coughing either…they probably think I have COVID…

COACHING UPDATE

It has been 1 year since I taught my first experimental Zoom fitness class! It seems like it has been so much longer… In the last year I have grown from one small class on Zoom to 4 different classes on Google Meet! I am hopeful that I will be able to host in-person classes someday, but the online classes have allowed me to reach people who don’t live locally, so I expect to keep my online classes indefinitely! I have really enjoyed connecting with some college friends and former co-workers, and it wouldn’t have happened without these online fitness classes.
