Monday Minute 5/3/21
The last month has been…interesting. From a runner’s perspective, it has been quite disappointing. But I am getting better at accepting the disappointments and moving on!
PERSONAL UPDATE
I waited too long to order my new orthotics, and the tendonitis pain came back. Then the new ones finally came, and they were not made correctly! It took me longer than it should have to figure out exactly what was wrong with them, but one day I laid them side by side with the original pair and could see that the metatarsal cushion was almost an inch too far towards my heel. So, I sent them back and had to wait for yet another pair. Meanwhile, over 2 weeks off from running went by. Then we spent a week at Disney and Universal, where we spent 8-12 hours a day on our feet for 5 days and walked over 50 miles. Happily, my new orthotics were here when we got home, and they seem to be correct this time.
I was so excited to finally run again after over 3 weeks, off, but my first chance was last Monday, which was also the day I got my 2nd Covid vaccine. I knew it was probably a bad idea, but I went for a run anyway because I wanted to so badly. I survived the easy 3 miles with some friends, but immediately upon stopping I felt like I was going to puke or pass out or both. I had to sit by the side of the road for 20 minutes before it felt safe to get up and slowly walk to the car. Later that night I spiked a fever of 102.7, and I spent the next day in bed, too weak to do anything.
I only ran 4 times in the entire month of April, for a grand total of 17.5 miles. It can only get better from here…right?
COACHING UPDATE
I am super excited to announce that my high school athlete, Rebecca, received her appointment to the Air Force Academy! I started working with Rebecca in September to help her prepare for the physical fitness test. Thanks to COVID and the suspension of high school sports, she had lost some fitness and needed help getting it back. I enjoyed meeting her weekly to work on her running, and was impressed by her dedication and commitment to success. I was so happy for her when she finally received her appointment and wish her all the best!
Participation in my workout classes continues to grow, and as always, I enjoy the opportunity to help others improve their fitness, as well as offering a little bit of social time for us all!
